Jeep won't come out of 4WD

Hi everyone, hope you can help my 2005 jeep cherokee 6 cyl. Will not disengage out of 4 wd can i still drive it . Thanks

Does your Jeep happen to have a body lift?

I know more about Wranglers than Cherokees, but my experience has been that 4wd shifter problems are normally due to problems with the linkage. The shfter inside the cabin works linkage that moves a selector on the side of the transfer case. As a short term fix you can move the linkage on the transfer case by hand.

I'd suggest not driving your Jeep in 4wd on the street.

Have you checked if it's the tcase not disengaging or is it the front diff? If its the front diff sometimes rolling backwards a little ways will help, as far as driving it on the pavement, a little bit won't kill it but take your turns easy and keep it to a minimum..
