jeep stalling!!!!

I have an 88 wrangler 258 Carter bbd 4.2. It runs a little rough when cold but when it warms up it seems to idle and run fine. But after some highway driving and you slow down to pay a toll, stop or turn it stalls. It starts back up fine but then it will keep stalling. After about 20 mins of restarting and driving it runs good again. I had the carb rebuilt and put in a new engine. I think it is the choke? Any one have this problem before. I'm going to switch to a weber carb.

dont feel bad your not the first, or will you be the last with this problem. I am new to the whole Jeep scene as you are, but the first thing I learned is how much a piece of S&@T the carter bbd is. I fiddled with mine and it would run fine for a day or to till finally i was just about ready the bust the thing of with a tire iron. I finally orderd a Weber K551-38 its the higher performance model if ya wanna call it that, and as soon as I get done here I am off to my garage to install it. I let you know tommorow what I think......but personally a squirrel sitting on top of the intake with a can of gas would do better than that junk carter ................good luck with you jeep [addsig]

Genereally the carter is a piece of junk... if you can afford to, it would be wise to consider swapping in a holley or weber carb. If you have the cash, fuel injection is the best way to go, but it is also REALLY EXPENSIVE!!!!



Oh yeah, also see the other post i made earlier today about the carburator cold start problem. This really helped me out with my carb problems when warming up...

I talked to a jeep mechanic he said to try and unplug the transmission and test drive it. It sounds like the torque converter is not unlocking. [addsig]

If it is an auto, then I would try unpluggin the transmission like Jay89 said- This happened to one of my friends- simple fix, all it ended up being was a solenoid of some kind- but if its a stick none of this matters-



Otherwise I would continue to work with the carb-[addsig]
