Intake On A 2.5L TJ

Hey guys,

I was just wondering if anyone has had any experience in replacing an intake (well, K&N filter and new tube) on a 2.5L TJ? Did you notice any performance or gas mileage gains?

Is it worth the about $35?

From what I've heard, there is no real performance increase that is worth the money. I too suffer from a 2.5L on gradual inclines But unfortunatly, theres nothing thats going to significantly increase the power. My suggestion, spend that $35 towards something else for your jeep. Just my $0.02

Even though I have the 4.0L, I'd like to give my thoughts on it. I recently purchased a stock replacement K&N air filter on my TJ. There were no gas mileage gains or performance gains that I can notice. However, if you do the math, it is still worth it to buy this filter. Figure this...to buy a new stock air filter during a routine oil change is about $28.00 (Fram, Purolator, etc). Multiply that times how many times you will change it and the cost could be in the hundreds of dollars. Why not just buy the K&N filter for $45.00 and keep it for the lifetime of your Jeep? Just makes sense to me.

On my old 87 YJ 4 banger I gained 5% in Milage and a noticeable incress in power by installing the K&N filter in the orginal box, and the addition of a good flowing muffler and the loss of the cat. Not to mention the sound was much better. The K&N is not that over priced if you look at it from the stand point of you are able to clean it recharge it and run it some say 100,000 miles. Any time you alow more CFM's to enter your carb and more CFM's to leave through your exaust you are going to not gain more power but you will allow the power that is stiffled in your enging to present itself. I have used this befor but here goes again. Run around the block at a brisk pace. Rest and while you do think about what it took out of you to do so. Once rested Do it again only this time do it with a resparator, or Gasmask on restricting your air intake and exhalation. Compare this with the first trip around the block. Opening up the air ways will do the same for your engin. Just my 2 cents. tug

Solely up to the person that is spending the money whether it is worth any gain in performance.

I say go for it, gave me much quicker throttle response, better mpg, and more rpms up the hills. I noticed more power, but mine's a conical K&N. I think they flow more than the drop-ins.

OK, I see what happened now. When I went to Advance Auto Parts, I picked up the Fram air filter with TRIAD technology by mistake. Not your regular air filter.

Fram TRIAD filter: $27.99

Purolator: $9.98

AC Delco: $8.68

Still think the K&N is worth the money. 5 changes and it's paid for itself. First cleaning does not have to be done until 50,000 miles and it's rated for use until 1,000,000 miles.
