i recently went from this panel

to this

now the problem is...the engine temp gauge (top left) does not work, and the oil pressure gauge (top right) reads off the charts. well i know there isnt a problem with the oil pressure or anything but i think i may need a engine temp sensor and wires and what not. what do you guys think?

You need to change out the temp sensor and oil pressure sensor with ones from an XJ that came with that guage cluster. They plug right in, no other mods needed to get that cluster working like it's supposed to.

There should be lots of info via google or www.naxja.org/forum if you need part numbers for those sensors, it's a very common upgrade.

sensors and switches are different. I believe a sensor will give a variable reading and a switch simply triggers a dummy light. You originally had dummy lights which read "all or nothing". Your engine temp is not high enough to trip the switch to give any reading, so its reading "nothing". Your oil pressure gauge is reading "all" because there is some reading there. With your current setup, your gauges are showing you exactly what they did before, but with needles instead of lights. Once you get sensors that give variable readings, you'll be in business.
