Hey all,

I just ordered a high flow, aftermarket cat for my 97 TJ. I noticed that there's no mounting posistion on the new cat for the downstream O2 sensor. Does anyone know how to deal with this? Do I have to drill a hole in the exhaust and mount it somehow or can I somehow eliminate the downstream O2 sensor completely? Any guidance would be appreciated. Many thanks.[addsig]

if there wasnt one before, then you don't need one... if so, if there was an original hole, you can put it there... if there was originally, and you replaced the catback and have no hole... you'll need to drill and tap, or weld on the right nut... if you want to remove it completely, you'll need some pretty in-depth computer mods[addsig]

does anyone know what size tap I'll need to thread the hole for the O2 sensor? I don't have $120 to go spend on a complete metric and standard tap and die set.[addsig]

If your jeep had the 2nd o2 sensor, you have to reinstall it. The o2 sensors have their own thread type, can't just drill and tap the tubing. You have to get a special threaded bung from a muffler shop and have it welded in to accept the sensor. Be easiest to just take the cat to a shop, take them about 5min to do it.[addsig]

If the original O2 was in the cat, drill a hole in the pipe in front of the cat, weld the proper size nut over the hole, and install the O2. That what I had to do on my TJ when I did my new exhaust. Actually what I did was torch the O2 "nut" off of the old cat and welded it over the hole in the pipe I made (with a torch actually).

thanks guys. looks like i'll have to find a muffler shop in the area that'll weld that nut on for me. you'd think someone out there would make a cat that's a direct fit. i've also got to figure out a way to maintain that bracket on the cat that fits into the mounting bushing. i think i might just cut the pipe close to the cat so that i can keep the original bracket. what a hassle. [addsig]
