Identify Axle?

In the interest of getting to know my newly acquired 1984 CJ7 a little better, I've been nosing around underneath and have found that the front axle is a Dana 44 (ARB locked). I understand this isn't stock for that year so I manage to remove enough rust from the axle and all but one numeral of the BOM # is readable. I go Dana's website and plug in all the number's I do have and then from 0 - 9 successively plug in the unknown digit. It turns out to be a Dana 44 GM/Chevy K20. What, if any info does anyone know about this axle and is this a common swap for it's stock 30? Also, what about modifications (width etc.) needed to install. Attached are pics of the axle. Thanks in advance for your help.

It appears to have been narrowed quite a bit, otherwise they would have had to outboard the spring mounts in order to get a fullwidth axle centered under a CJ.

Did they retain the 5lug CJ wheel pattern?

Should be a pretty heavy housing if it came from a 3/4t truck.

The lug pattern is standard CJ7. What I can't figure is the SOA vs SUA. I think the K20 was SOA. This setup looks to be stock CJ7 spring setup. It could be that the Dana sight has the numbers wrong.

Lots of odd stuff going on there for it to be a GM D44. Like was said already it would need to be shortened a lot to have the same WMS as a CJ. The K20 was SOA and that carrier housing is a SUA housing. The wheel bp from a K20 would be an 8 lug not a 5. I suppose the Dana site may have a typo. It does not look like a Scout D44 either to me, they were SOA too. I am thinking it is a pre 1980 Waggy low pinion SUA D44.

thats a narrow trac pre-78 waggy 44, most likely has ford spindle's to retain the 5 on 5.5 bolt pattern.

That is definately not a chevy D44, if it was, the spring perch would be cast into the top of the diff webing, not the bottom.
