Ideas to secure a Jeep

Never Old

Seeing as my 81'CJ5 is going to be my daily driver, anyone have any ideas on how to keep it from being broken into/stolen?

Hard top and full steel doors.Other than that dont leave anything valuable in it.They do have some lock boxes you can install to secure things if you wanted to go that route.

Yeah, every one of my jeeps had Tuffy boxes in them. Always leave my jeeps unlocked. That way they never cut the tops. Anyone who knows jeeps would know the frigging windows zip out. If that doesn't work for ya, I'd have to agree with the hard top.

Steering locks or a removable steering wheel would work as a theft deterrent. I believe they have them for your year.

I had a TJ and the PO installed a lock switch that locked the hood down and would not let the Jeep start unless the key cylinder was switched to the off position. I have no clue what it was called. But leave the doors unlocked (although my windows have still been broken would love to have seen the crooks face when he locked himself out) And tuffy box, same crook got nothing before stabbing my console with a screw driver.

Viper alarm system. Valet switch on either the fuel pump or ign switch... It could be a normal switch hidden or more creative using a magnetic switch or special key... Keep it empty of valuables.

Keep the jeep empty. I also leave it unlocked in hopes that they will try the handle before slashing the windows. I keep nothing of value in there that can be seen. I take the face from the stereo. The amp is several inches under the dash. I remove the cb and antenna when not on trails. Only have change in the cupholders. That was taken once when I was downtown topless and doorless. They took all the change except the pennies. Lol. They were nice thieves. Took everything out of the glovebox and stacked it nicely on the floor. Otherwise, I may not have noticed. I just take the change once a month or so and throw it in a jar. Lol

I remember seeing that at sometime, Terry. I like those fuzzy seats... My center console has been modified, also. It has no storage room. Sub installed. You can lift the lid, but you will only see the sub box level with the top of the console and covered with material that looks like the dash. I'd take a pic, but... :( :`(

I too agree with the center console. Mine holds my stereo and hasn't been touched yet. I'm in the process of making a trunk out of the back of my Jeep. I took the back seat out since no one rides there. Nothing special. Just gonna use some 3/16 steel and enclose it at wheel well level. Pics will be posted when I'm done.

RN when you get it back take a pic. How much longer must you wait?
Who knows. These fools forgot to address the engine when they began fixing the jeep. They got the body going and when I asked what all they found under the hood, they were dumbstruck. The interaction is a bit of a story. I will not have it by the end of my DC contract. I will be going back to OH jeepless. I'm considering loading it on a trailer and hauling it home to where I know.

Here's what I did for my CJ:

You'll never be able to keep people out, so just lockup your stuff in a box

Love the ammo can console. I've got a couple in my garage. I may have to think of something like that for the JK in the 'trunk' area. I had the tuffy center console in my TJ which housed the stereo unit. I left the stock in the dash as a glorfied clock. Would-be thieves would think it was a stock system. Most that ever was stolen from any of my Jeeps was the loose change.

The console is a good start, I have one from Quadratec that has the radio inside of it. Like everyone else, I never leave anything of valve in the Jeep and leave it as open as possible to avoid getting my top cut.

You may what to consider installing a hidden electrical cutoff switch somewhere for the ingition system. It only slows down a good thief ............
