i want to swap a 1992 4.0 and ax5 trans into my 1987 yj

are there any issues i need to consider before i do this swap? my jeep currently has the 4.2 and the ba/10 trans.[addsig]

Do you mean the AX15? If not the I would reconsider using the ax5, thats what they put behind the 2.5ltrs. Even with normal use the synchros generally fail at some point so if you are planning on bigger tires I would definitely look for something stronger. I think the AX15 is what they normally put behine the 4ltrs. [addsig]

If your engine is in decent shape, you can leave the block and swap in the 4.0L head, intake manifold, fuel injection, computer, and AX15. It'd be pretty straightforward if you had the donor vehicle or a vehicle for reference.[addsig]

what motor was in the 87 YJ? if it was a 2.5 you'll have to change the entire wiring harness, the computer and relocate the motor mounts. I just finished dropping a 4.0 liter fuel injection in my 87YJ that had a 2.5L it was a big job took almost two months off and on.[addsig]

Nah, he said 4.2L, which uses the same mounts as a 4.0L :-D [addsig]
