Re: another dumb request...clutch...

Here we go.........I have an 88 wrangler. I've had it for about a year know and still trying to get it to run consistent. I replaced and checked about everything I can think of. Replaced: spark plugs, fuel filter, upgraded with bigger distributor and coil, rebuilt the carb, checked the vacuum(20 inches @ idle), timing, adjusted carb, took valve cover off and watched valve operation, checked compression, sprayed carb cleaner everywhere, etc.....I can't remember everything......anyway it still runs rough. I thought about FI. Would FI solve my problem???? Can anyone tell me this???? If it will or you think it will how do I determine what parts I need for this mod...........I could really use some help!!!!!

Just bought Motorcarft 2150 for 85 cj yes another question

First off, Welcome Aboard Popeye!!! Sorry, couldn't resist! :)

I had some problems with the idle on my '90 YJ when I got it a couple of years ago too. Tune up helped a little but it still was not right. I kept reading about the Nutter Bypass, but was skeptical because of the tight emissions laws here in New Jersey. I found this link which expalined blocked orifice tubes in the Carter BBD and found one of mine was dripping. Drilling them out really helped.

RE: Wanna see "redneck"?

try acouple more "fix's" then save for FI. Might be cheaper to buy the hole motor though. I gave up on my 87, and put a 98 4.0L and transmission in it. Best thing i ever did(even the lockers, axles, tires)CAN'T WHEEL IT IF IT DONT RUN!!!!!

There is a helpful writeup in the "how-to section" of this website that walks you through fixing the stock Carter carb. Apparently it was flawed from the factory and this modification helps. I have heard varying results, but it is free and relatively easy so it's worth a shot.

The Nutter bypass is also an option, but your local emmissions laws (testing policies) may make that a bad choice. If you search Jeepz.com with "nutter bypass" you should find all the links you need to do this mod (also a freebie).

A good replacement carb is also an option. A motorcraft 2100 or 2150 is a great choice if you can find a good used one. You'll need an adapter plate and have to fabricate the linkage some but it is not too dificult if you have a little mechanical ability.

Best of luck, welcome to Jeepz and keep us posted.

top fit...

thanks for welcoming me aboard.............I guess I left off some info about my jeep.......the last owner put on a weber carb and there are no emissions where i live. This is the carb that I rebuilt. On this carb there are 2bbl. When i look down the throat i see only on bbl looks used(dirty) the other looks clean. When i rev the engine i never see gas shooting into the second bbl. Is this normal?? Is there something that I missed on the rebuild???? Has anyone else had these problems with the weber???? what was your fix????

First, if it is a 6 get rid of the Weber and go with the 390 4 barrel Holley W/offroad kit. Did you check valves? Are you certain it is aspiration/fuel?

The 390 Holley loves, and lives well, with our 6s.

FI as a last resort
