ok so now that ive rounded out my windsheild torx bolts...how do i get them out???help my iwndsheild is loose and it squeeks and its driving me nuts!!! help me :x
i always start with the easy out... if that doesn't work... then you move to the welding method, in which you weld a standard hex nut onto the torx head and use a socket to remove it
Not sure if they are the same thing, but if the easy out doesn't work try reverse outs. It worked on my windshield, doors, interior, etc. Pretty much any place that has torx bolts...I screwed them up.
Mine started spinning from inside, I had to drop the winsheild down and pull most of the dash apart to hold the nuts inside while I backed out the bolts. A much bigger project than was worth it, but it's done. I don't know if the nuts had a weld that broke or what, but an electric impact gun is what I was using.
I used to have a set of revers cut drill bit and easy outs (same as reverse outs). Most of the time while I was drilling with the reverse drill bit it will vibate and break the bolt loose. Most of the time I did not have to use the easy out. I just wish I remembered who borrowed those and did not return them they were nice.
you don't NEED a reverse cut drill bit... but they do work better.. when drilling metals, a low speed to cut works much better and keeps the tools in better shape, and when something cuts, it obviously has friction, which can help turn the bolt out, rather than tightening it.... though... if you can only get standard drill bits... they will also work
ok heres what you do. Spray a good amount of WD-40 on them, and let it soak for a while. Then torch them for about a minute with a propane torch. After that let them cool some, then spray some more wd-40. Get the next bigger size torx hear and pound it in the bolt with a hammer, and then they should come right out.
ok so i tried the reverse out...broke the darn thing in the bolt...im gonna try the welding method next and if that doesnt work ill break my darn windsheild getting that stupid bolt out!
I feel they are the weak link when it comes to jeep. AS one comes out of my jeeps I always replace it with something else a bit more user friendly. tug
