i have a 1990 jeep cherokee laredo and in order to stop i have to press on the brakes really hard. i can come to a complete stop and if i stomp on the brakes it will stop but just stopping normally is kinda hard. i also have abs and a hydraulic brake system. i thought it was the power brake booster but when i opened the hood i realized that i didn't have one, instead i have hydraulic brakes. i know nothing about hydraulic brakes, or what it could possibly be. is there any one else that has this braking system that could help me? i've taken it to a mechanic and they had never seen anything like that and didn't believe me when i said that i had abs because jeeps didn't have abs til '92, and they told me to go to a specialist. i'm stumped and i want to know if someone else has this same "weird", brake system and could help me.

Hi, new to board, just bought a 90 cherokee ltd, and could use some help!

I'm hoping to find an answer, and preferably a fix from someone here, for the exact same issue with my 90 (just bought it last week). As much as I would like it fixed, as im sure you do too, I DO have a temporary fix, that works on mine. My problem is intermittant, and seems to be an electrical problem, heres why.... when I start the jeep and put my foot on the pedal and dont get the "power feeling" I...... wait for it..... adjust the power mirrors back and forth and I can feel the pedal drop within seconds. It appears to stay powered up until at least` the car is restarted. Fix may work with other accessories, maybe a resistance issue. Now that I see that this is not an isolated issue, please if someone has chased down this gremlin let us know where he lives. (unless of course I bought janies jeep, then im here alll alone:( )
