How to replace a window...

My '87 Comanche was vandalized yesterday and the driver's side window was smashed. It has manual cranks and manual door locks.

My question is...how difficult is it to replace the window myself?

Any special tools needed?

I need to replace the weatherstrip/rubber around the window as well.

I have my Haynes manual, but it is not very thorough on window replacement.

Any suggestions on this fix? Any help is appreciated.

Man sorry about the vandalism! :twisted:

I have never done jeep window but a Chevrolet S-10 is not that bad if you don't mind very small working space. Take the inside molding off and get your shop vac out and start getting all the glass out of every crevice or it will rattle later. Roll down the window and you should see how it is attached to the channel. I am sure some one around here will have a picture.

It should not be that hard just time consuming. Good luck and sorry again about getting smashed!

Thank goodness they didn't do any more damage than they did. Just the window. I think they might have been scared off before they had time to steal anything or do more damage.

Anyway, I think I can fix it myself...just wanted to know from the many great Jeep experts here in the forums if there were any unsuspected snags to be aware of .

window in door may take about 1-2 hours to do if you take time doing it. broken glass is a PITA to pick all up. My cherokee was broken into when 1st bought it. 2 years and I still small glass when I clean it up from time to time.

It's pretty straight-forward, take your time removing the screws from the door panel and start pulling it away from the door at the bottom.

Replacement parts are plentiful in the junkyards, same parts as 4dr Cherokee's for the most part.
