Holy Cats! A T18 WITH a Saturn overdrive ?!?

I think the price shows just how rare these birds are....I've paid less than $2000 for many a Jeep.

I was recently re-reading an old JP magazine and they mention if you see an old Jeep with four sticks configured like this ~ grab it
A few turns of the input/output shaft will tell the story if it really IS a 6.32

The Saturn overdrive is a copy of the very early WARN all-range overdrive that was attached to the back of the spicer (dana) 18 transfercase. The purpose was so you could drive on the high way with the only factory gearing of 5.38 or 4.88, and later 4.27 gears with out your rpms screaming. Today its for the same reasons, you can have super low gears and still drive on the high way. it also turns your 4spd into a 12spd plus high and low 4x4, by going from the standard gearing to a 25% reduction in any gear at any time. I have a Warn all range but stripped the main gear with the HP im running. I will have it rebuilt one day.

The T18 trans is fairly strong top loader transmission but the spicer 18 transfer case was built when jeeps had four cylinders and V6 dauntless engines. The ability to select low range when in two wheel drive is desirable . With overdrive , this combination is even more desirable . But at $2000 , I would think that kind of money would be better spent on an ATLAS 2 transfer case . At least the transfer case will support more torque . Granted , there is no overdrive with the ATLAS 2 but I believe it's still money better spent. Does anyone think this is a fairly priced purchase ? Even rebuilt ?

I like the Atlas too (if I could afford one) but I'm dubious of new products although I think by now the Atlas has been tried and proven.

The overdrives are very pricey, especially the original Warn unit. I know new ones are around $1000.00, rebuilds 700-800. they make the Saturn version for D20 and D300 and I believe others. I made a mistake on my post above, I stated that the overdrive gives you a 12spd, it actually gives you two choices for each gear, including reverse and high low 4x4. I LOVED my overdrive. The Warn unit is limited to about 350ftlbs of torque though. Don't know about the saturns.
