I am getting ready to drop a 4.3L Vortec in my 83 CJ-5 (just pulled the 4.2L I6 on Sat and got some cleaning to do). I've got all the main parts (motor, transmission adapter to T-176, stand alone wiring harness, computer, fuel pump, weld in motor mounts, and general mechinal knowledge), and most of the bits and peices covered. I am in need of tecnical/I've done this before advice. Any one out there done this mod , or know someone that has, out there that could give me some helpfull hints so this will go smoothly, I want to get my baby back on the trails and in the woods. Thanks much for all your help in advance, Cjlover1983.

I haven't done the conversion, but someone in my 4x4 club has done something simular. He droped a Vortec 4.3L V6 in his CJ-7, along with a R700R4 auto transmission. That thing can wheel! Have you considered replacing the T176 transmission? When I rebuilt my 5, I put in a T-18 with the granny 1st. The T176 is so small, I had to have mine rebuilt once. That was enough, it's outta there! Your in there, now's the time to change it out.
