Help me choose which wheel bearings to buy

Guys I got a quote from the dealer asking a lot of money for 2 wheel bearings. Would they get mad if I brought them my own 2 front wheel bearings? It's making a grumbling sound on the road and highway, as if it's stuck in a lower gear and does not want to shift higher. Is that what a dying wheel bearing sound like? It must have happened after I went over this nutty huge pothole..

*At the same time my transmission over temp is flashing, but doubt it's related...

timkin or moog. top brand names and wouldn't be surprised if that is what the dealer would sell you at a higher price. Get them at your local auto parts store, (autozone, advanced, pepboys, oriley's) Wheel bearings are not that big of a job in my opinion to pay the higher dealer price to install, I would take it to a cheaper shop, any decent shop should be way more than qualified to do this job. Trans high temp could very well be related to this as the engine and trans have to work harder to keep you moving with a bad bearing. You could install a trans cooler, or it may go back to normal once the bearing is fixed. good luck!

Most dealers will NOT install parts they didn't supply.

you are lucky. most dont like to, and if they do they wont warranty as good. I only stick with timken or skf. Usually skf is a little cheaper than timken though

an FYI Timken and Moog are the two top US vehicle manufacturer bearing suppliers.

Hey there, my transmission over temp message case seems to have been summer heat related but we'll see...

Someone posted this elsewhere recently. .

Any body with this concern should let the dealer know about STAR case # S1421000016 and have the Powertrain Control Module replaced. You have an 8 year/80,000 mile warranty.
