Head rebuilding...101

Okay, so I remembered to put everything in order and label it and number it and so forth, except for the rocker pivots. They have angled oil guides. For example , the pivot retainer for #1 cylinder can go back on left-ways or right-ways. Question is, do I line up the oil guides, or cross them? I can reason this out to be correct either way, but just don't know. I have all of the necessary books, but they are not that in-depth and have no pictures on this issue. Any assistance appreciated.

I ran into that puzzle myself on a factory built 4 and the rocker groove angles were'nt 4 & 4... it was 3 & 5, so I figured they didn't care enough to match them, or they would have.

X-ing the grooves would imply a full wipe delivery... I suspect as long as they wiggle in a puddle it gets an oil increase with wear. if the groove is worn thin, I'd worry about delivery. it's a good part to replace at high milage.

I don't think it's worth losing sleep.

When I got down to cleaning these little guys, I discovered that it was actually a ridge and a groove. This made it obvious that I needed to line them up. When I first looked at them they were so cruddy I thought they were both grooves. When I got the dental pick in there, I discovered it was a worn down ridge. Anyway, it's all back together and running. Now I can sleep at night.

not sure ridge is right.
sounds more like a worn down flat left a ridge remaining... but in that case, lining it up was probably good.
