Guage question

A jeeper buddy of mine just picked up a 89 XJ for $100 it needs body work, and we already put a new T-case in, but here is my question. The XJ has full instrumentation in the dash, not a speedo and tach and idiot lights but has 6 guages, and the guages are blue with whitish/grey print. I was thinking that maybe this was intended for police use, but I did some research and found no info on the guages on police modles but that they were column shift and not console shifters cause of all the police equiptment.

So, can someone explain these guages to me! We are confused, this is his 4th XJ and the first like this!

If it says "certified" on the speedometer it should be a cop model, maybe FBI?

Maybe its not original either. perhaps previous owner swapped it in?

The 6-guage cluster was common in older XJ's, don't know the year they did away with most of the guages in favor of the idiot lights.

The guage color sounds like an overlay of some type, doesn't sound factory.

The Popo package on the XJ had a factory guage cluster, along with column shift and extended idle toggle switch.

Maybe that guage color is factory, here's what I think may be similar in an MJ:

That Looks pretty close to what are in his XJ, we just want to know cause should he need to replace anything like the alternator or something, those were the the parts that were generally different.

And in my experience, once having a old boston Police Harley, they are completely different (of course I am comparing apples and oranges)

Perhaps they were swapped in from another XJ or MJ.

RE: I hooked someone

Hi,

I've seen the light gray gauge faces before, but only on idiot light style clusters, like on Bounty's truck. Never seen them on a 6 gauge cherokee instrument cluster.
