Going into reverse, or making coffee

I just got a 99 Sahara with a manuel trans. Every time I put my jeep into reverse, it grinds the gear. I was wondering if it was something I'm doing wrong, or if I missed something, or if I need to take it in to have something adjusted. Any help would be greatly apprecieated. [addsig]

I just replied to you about the Wave and saw this post. I have the same problem. Patience is the key. But if you haven't go patience, I always put it in another gear like 5th that way it's exactly lined up and I just slide it back into Reverse. Sometimes it takes several tries. I also put it in 4th sometimes and then move it directly to Reverse. This might have something to do with the clutch, but it's a working fix for me. Give it a try! By the way, nice Subject title, making coffee. Good one. Also, this is like selling drugs, but go to quadratec.com and request a magazine, it's free and you can daydream all day about upgrades and accessories for your Jeep.[addsig]

I would recomend changing your transmission oil, i just recently changed mine in my yj which i dont think was everchanged since 1991 when it was put in there i went with a havoline or valvoline somthing like that durablend formula 85w-90 GL-5 gear oil, it takes 2 1/2 quarts drove it around added a little more, now i dont grab going into second or reverse and makes the floor board a lot cooler. when you do it drop your skid makes life a lot easier, and remove one of your drain plugs from your diverside floor board, run a hose from you fill plug up connect the oil to you hose and fill till even or like me running out of the fill plug hole. I have been driving stick shifts for a while and was told by my grandfather years ago to always shift into first and then go to reverse. He said something to the effect of back when transmissions weren't synchronized this was the way to keep from grinding into reverse. It has always been a habit even as I have driven newer manual transmission vehicles. Hope this helps.
