I have a 1982 CJ7 that i am setting up.....

so far T-18 and new centerforce clutch
Fullsize DANA 44s front and rear
soon SOA with 3in leaf packs
then adding a set of Super Swamper TSL/SXs 36x12.50s

my question is with this set up what gearing should i run.... the 44s have 3.54s now what should i gear down to

by the way there are 33s on it now with stock axles and 3 inch lift

thanks FiC

for an example i have an inline 6 and 39.5 and i put 5.13 gears in it....should be plently of power but this is going to be my trail rig.

And I'm going to run 5.38 with a 4banger and 34" tires.

What engine you running? Each engine type has an optimum rpm range so you need to figure what gear ratio brings that rpm range back to stock, or lower for better crawling.

What axle ratio and tire size did you have stock?

Looks like you'd be best off with 4.11 or 4.56 to keep the rpms down on the 258.

That's true Bounty, I like running 4.11s with 36s. That is my preferred ratio for that size tire in the type of terrain I frequently wheel. I need wheel speed more than "crawl-ability". I think a trail rig, which I assumed he is building because of the T-18, would be better off with the 4.88.
