Since no one really cares but me! i thought I would give up the info!

I was reading this in the recent edition of 4wheeler;

The rubicon unlimited will be released in 2005 and will be equiped the same as the regular rubicon in every detail except the longer wheel base, and instead of the NV4500, it will be replaced with a 6 spd transmission which will have the same Over drive gear, but the crawl ratio will be a lot better than the current rubi. right now it is a 6.?:1something ratio, with the 6spd and the 4:1 T case, it will be in the neighborhood of 7.4:1

I will post a link!

Am I the only one who is really interested in this rig!

The current Rubi manual transmission has a 1st of 6.x ? Sounds awfully low to me. The 4:1 transfer case is too low for most wheelin around here, seems the Rubi owners have a hard time finding the right gear for the mud, the hills, and the muddy hills ;)

The really low gears are great for wheelin in the North east. We have little mud! well not a whole lot, mostly rock ledges and technical hill climbs. for the steaper and more " right pedal friendly" hill climbs, simple throw it into second!

From some things that I have seen, the six speed will be only standard transmission for Jeep Wranglers in 2006.

Here are the gear ratios:

1- 5.014:1
2- 2.831:1
3- 1.789:1
4- 1.256:1
5- 1.000:1
6- 0.828:1
Reverse 4.569:1

With a 4:1 transfer case in 4 lo and 4.11 gears that yeilds a 82.43 crawl ratio.

I understand the point about the 4:1 transfer case being too low for mud, but it does have six gears. I am always in 4 lo I just start out in 2nd or even 3rd depending on the conditions.

With a 0.828 6th and a 4.11 rear end and a 4.0 transfer case that yeildes a ratio of 13.612:1.

At 1500rpm or 90,000 revs per hour that would yeild 6611.8 wheel revolutions per hour.

With a tire size of 245/75/R16 (standard tire size on a Rubicon) that would equal a tire diameter of 30.47 inches and a circumference of 95.72 inches or .0015107 miles.

Multiply the 6611.8 wheel revolutions times the .0015017 miles per revolution and you get 9.99 miles per hour......that is a little slow for sloshing through the mud, but that is what 4hi is for

Yep, just simply use 4hi.

I think someone's got some spare time on their hands (Deerhunter). LOL....j/k

I just enjoy solving the math problems. It's funny I never enjoyed math in school but love this type of problem solving math now.

Maintenece required light just came on :(

:? :)

nah, they need to offer the Rubi with a standard low ratio as well as the 4:1. Everybody I used to wheel with who jumped on the super-low range trend has swapped them out. It's just not practical in my area. It's not just the mud, it's the mud sitting on top of the rocks and the dirt ledges. 4:1 won't generate enough wheel speed, and 1:1 doesn't offer enough torque multiplication or control.

That's why dual cases are getting more popular, if you can fit them under the vehicle. high.....single low......double low.

Or swap in a transmission with Granny low. what is it a sm650 (the muncie 3spd transmission with granny low)
