fuel gauge

Hi my jeep is a 1985.I just bought it and I do have a lot of things that need to be repaired and straightened out. I think im in the right place. Thanks Scott.

Hi Scott,
This should be helpful. This is pretty close.
The funny thing with Jeep gauges, is the engine temperature, and gas are inner connected.
The gas gauge regulates the power feeding to the temp. gauge.

The second image is an old article I found that might give you some ideas.

My '78 CJ5 gave me a fit. I hope yours goes better.
Finding good quality gauges is hard to do.

Thank you Tison I am going to see if I can copy that info. The young fella I got the jeep from did the best he could with the tools and resources he had. I have the whole unit out right now and I see what you mean by the fuel and temp gauge being connected. I put a test light to it but I have no power. Wiring is the least thing I like to do. Thanks again Scott.

One thing to try, unhook one side of the battery first.
Pull a fuse out of the use box, I like using Scotch bright pads, or get some fine grit sand paper.
You make either of your choice, the size of the fuse, pop it into the fuse block, and move it around.
This is a good way to get the rust out.
I guess you have already seen the rust around the electrical.
It I the nature of the beast.
When I hit a bump, I loose my turn signal, or gauges.
I have been tempted to try a layer of grease around the connections.

I pulled up an older post for more fun. 78 nightmares.
Good luck
Tison

Thanks Tison I do auto body repair and restoration as well as my own mechanical. Its the electrical stuff that I have a hard time with. I would like to find out where I can buy a manuel and wire schematic. Somebody must sell them but I have not found anything so far.

The one I have is Haynes Repair Manual #50020
You can pick them up from your favorite parts house.
Mine is 1949 - 1986, all models.
It skips a lot, but it does have a good electrical section.
Also great information on the internet.

Tison

I just occurred to me. I have a good scanner. If you want, I can scan the page of your electrical system, and put it on here as a pdf.

Hopefully this will help.
I had to scan the pages separate. The first was too big for the site.
