Front wheel drive YJ???

So I found out the rear cv driveshaft is the Last thing I am going to be able to do since it is being custom made... so here is the idea I have...

Do the Soa lift...
install Sye kit...
take out original drive shaft...
~while I'm waiting for the new cv shaft...~
put the jeep in 4wd...
drive the jeep for a week in front wheel drive!

Will this work? This way I will avoid getting vibrations from having the original drive shaft giving me all sorts of vibrations.

It will work but I don't recommend it for:
  • Long distances
    Quick acceleration
    Total mileage

i can understand the speed factor but why not the other two bounty? the dana 30 is stronger than the 35 anyway. i cant see any major problems as long as you keep you t-case plugged and full. just take it easy!

Just don't turn! You'll most likely do some excess wear and tear on the front u-joints, turning on dry concrete with the axles locked. I would reserve this method of transportation for emergencies only! I know your spending a lot of cash on this killer YJ Joop, Why risk tearing up the front axles on the street?? Save that for when your in the mud!

how could his front lock up????dont you have an open diff joopin? i am not trying to encourage you to do excessive driving with only front wheel drive, i am just stating that it would hurt anything. as for the u-joint, i dont think it will hurt em cause you have an open diff. if you have a locked diff with no lock-out hubs that is a different story. :D :D

Actually I do have an open diff in the front. I'm not planning on wheeling with it this way, I just don't want to be able to get to work during the week while I'm waiting for my new cv to come. I work about 5 miles from my house so I wouldnt be putting on alot of miles during this experiment.
I just figured the jeep doesn't know that the rear shaft isnt there so why would it matter? The rear D44 will just roll along like its getting towed, right?

You should be fine only driving 5 miles twice daily. My main concern is the transfer case, and the fact that you're now redirecting 100% of engine torque 180* to the front, rather than 50% of torque.

Just take it easy and you should be fine.

Oh I get what your saying now, good point bounty. There will be no resistance on the rear output shaft of the sye... I definaltly will take it easy if I do try this. Thanks

Any experiences with Bestop Extendatrunk?

is the dana 30 actually really stronger than the 35? now that i think of it... it seems the shafts were a little beefier in the 30... but is it really a stronger axle?
