Front diff problems now.. Help!

So I opened up my front diff for multiple reasons, one was because things sounded a bit off.. And as you can tell from the pictures, they were. It looks like the spider gears are completely done, but the ring & pinion look fine. I was going to change out my axle shafts tomorrow, but I'm guessing I should wait till i get my new spider gears? Would http://www.4wheelparts.com/Drivetra...t_s=237&t_pt=5095&t_pl=101706&t_pn=G/220-2032 be a good replacement? And do i have to remove the differential to change the spider gears?

personally i would change out the whole works new ring and pinion and spider gears now would be a good time to install a locker !!!! just my opion but that is what i would do and new bearings never know what all got metal flacks in it

Wow your spider gears did take a beating. I would inspect the ring and pinion for wear also. Yes you do need to take out your diff to change the spider gears. While its apart inspect bearings and give a good cleaning. If you are an serious off roader this may be a time to upgrade a few thing? If you have any other questions just ask. Good luck.

If i pull the carrier out, won't i have to deal with adjusting the ring & pinion so they are the correct distance apart? (Checking backlash)

If i pull out the carrier would i have to check/adjust backlash? I think i'm gonna get an aussie locker.. Anyone installed one before?

You can pull and reinstall the carrier without having to change any shims or check the backlash.

The axleshafts need pulled in order to install new spider gears.

depending on gear ratio you might be able to change with carrier inside the housing,if the shaft that holds the spider gears will clear the ring gear you can change in the housing, but with that much chewed off of the spiders i would pull it to clean and inspect, when i installed my lockrite i left everything in the housing, not easy not fun, took lots of 4 letter words to get done.time for a lunchbox locker
