front brake drum removal


Did you remove the two screws that hold it to the hub?? If so. Try to free up the two adjuster cam bolts on the backing plate .
If those are loose too... Pb blaster and a lot of pateince. If all that does not work. A pulled will but you need to go very slow and tighten it. Tap all around with a hammer. Tighten a little more. Tap again. Patience is the key. Good luck. I got juck with my 56 cj5. Every thing just pretty much fell apart...

where are the two screws,and do i need to pull the locking hub? I have done brakes on cars before but not 4X4 so i'm have a little promblem here. Thanks for any help
 

Ohh yeah. Three screws sorry. And no you dont have to touch the hub. The drum goes around it. Here's some pics

This might be out of the context of help, but you have drum brakes on the front?! I despise drum brakes. They're not that much harder to change than disc brakes, but I hate em. Im taking out my rear drums, and changing to the quadruple-bammer-slammer-yammer-jammer-whammer-all-around-disc-er-oonies. It's gonna be so nice!!! I can't wait.

Ok found another pic that show hub/drum like mine. And it states that I do have to pull the locking hub off to get the drum off. Like I said I'm learn, these 4X4 brakes are new to me. Thanks for your information it all helps.
 
Wow haven't seen that style in a long time ,,

you would need to remove the 6 bolts around the hub,
than remove hub , remove the spindle nut inside drum,and remove the drum

are those brakes 9inch or 10
this would be a good time to upgrade to disc
 

Matt post a good picture of the adjusting cam bolts on the backing plate so he can see them. Manually adjusted brakes are really old school and unless you're old or work on old stuff like me you'll never come across them. They don't even teach them in auto classes anymore. I would post a picture but I am not near either of my CJ2A's
dbjack- after removing those lockout hubs the hub/drum assembly will come off just like a rear wheel drive car front wheel hub. You remove the cotter pin and bearing nuts, remove the outer brg. then slide the assy. off the spindle. The inner brg and spindle seal will remain inside the hub.
 
Thanks for all the help, I got them off. Already bought all the parts for my brakes so I'm going to stay with the drums. They are 11" drums.
 

Do you have the cam bolt adjusters to adjust the shoes?
If so I'll post some pics to give you an idea on how to adjust them
