Front axel u joint

I have a 2001 cherokee sport with a broken u-joint passenger side front.
I have changed the half axels on my 93 jeep which has a CV joint, this is different and only has the open u-joint visible. Question is, can I pull this axel and replace the u-joint or should I replace the whole axel? Some u-joints are epoxied and very hard for the shade tree mechanic to remove.
Thanks.

You can replace the U-Joint without replacing the axle shaft. If you run across those ones that has the injected adhesives, all you need is a little heat and it will make it easier to break the caps loose.

Thanks Steel, very helpfull info.
If I may ask another question, do I have to go into the diff and release the shaft?

No.Once you remove all the components in the way including the hub and bearing assembly, pull the axle shaft out and replace the U-Joint. Be careful when installing the axle shaft so that the seal inside the axle tube does not get damaged.
