Follow-up to being run over

Well ladies and gentlemen of the Jeeping clan,
Thursday, the 13th, i go in for total reconstruction of my right knee. I have torn my ACL, LCL, MCL, and PCL along with 1 of 3 hamstrings and i broke a piece of bone off the patella. They are not going to operate on my left knee as it is only a partial tear of the PCL and i can recover w/out surgery. Besides 2 knees cut and i won't be able to move around. I was told the tendons and ligaments are torn so bad they are using cadavar (think its spelled right) parts to replace mine. I was told there is a high chance that after surgery i could have a loss of some movement in my leg and that the ACL and LCL could tear alot easier than before. IF so my career is over and I have no idea what else i would like to do. I don't know. I was supposed to get a new car too, but thats not happening since i can't drive now and won't for a while. Thanks for all your prayers. There was definately someone watching over me that night to make sure I came home in 1 piece. You know the weirdest thing aabout this is I just got out of a 2 week advanced accident collision school 1 week before i was struck and we covered 2 days of pedestrian accidents then I become one. Crazy the way life works huh? Thanks again guys (and gals) i'll keep you informed on my progress.
Your friend and brother in the Jeeply circle,
Jim

good luck..I'm sure all will go well....

How'd ya manage to bust up yer knee like that?

We'll be praying for a sucessful operation and a healthy rehabilitation of that knee of yours. It must be rough having uncertainty about the job. Let me know is there is anything else I/we can do by either posting here on the forum or via PM.

Hang in there.

Really sucks to hear that, Jim. I blew my left knee out playing softball (of all things) so I can empathize with your pain. As far as the job goes, maybe God's trying to tell you something.....who knows? He does work in mysterious ways. I'm sure your wife would be happy if you find another passion. Prayers and best wishes to you from the muds...........the end of something always means the beginning of something else.......sometimes MUCH better! Best of luck to you and good luck with those knees.

My mom had the cadaver treatment when she had to have her ACL replaced; she made a full recovery... Here's hoping you'll recover well...

Did they ever find the person who did it? I can't rightly recall...

Hey. You could move to Canada and become an RCMP and ride a horse (I think they still do that in some places here). No walking and no stepping on a gas pedal!

I got a piece of dead dude in my neck....just hope he never wants it back!

Like Mud said, God works in mysterious ways, and whenever he closes one door, he opens another. I know your passion for your job is high, and that will help you in your recovery. One of the ladies I went to paramedic school with was in a terrible car accident a few years after becoming a paramedic. She skidded on the ice and slammed a bridge, rolling her car several times. She broke several vertebrae, both legs, was nearly completely scalped, and had serious internal injuries. Doctors said she'd never regain the use of her legs, much less ever work EMS again. She made an amazing recovery, and was back on the street in less than 6 months! I still see her from time to time, and hear her on the scanner quite a bit, and when I do, it gives me the courage to go forward every day, despite anything that may seem to be a hindrance to me.

Keep a positive attitude, Jim.....that's the best medicine. Well, that and laughter. So, to help in your healing, just get a mental image of me with my skinny white legs sticking out of a pair of "saggin' " shorts wearing rainbow colored socks with the individual toes.

Feelin' better already, aren't you?

I'll keep praying for you and your family, Jim. Hang in there!!

Our prays and hopes from Utah.
As all have said the Lord moves in mysterious ways, I hope this will bring you to another of your lives passions.

From a recovering knee replacement patient all I can say is grin and bare the pain...and no hitting the PT when they make you walk.
May your steps get steadier and your spirits rise above all.

Man, I must have missed the original "run over" thread. Glad to hear that you're ok and on the road to recovery.

edit: Now I remember, your wife posted that you were injured. Again, glad you're ok.

Yeah they caught the witch that hit me. Witnesses say i went up and over her hood and then slammed into the back of my patrol car breaking the tail light and bumper. They found her car two towns over ditched off a dirt road. Seh claimed she was going to turmn herself in when she got home, but only thing police heard from her was when they went to her house 24 hours later and found her. Usual B.S. I tore up my left knee back in 2003 and recovered from that. But as my wife says god hit me with a 2X4 then and told me to get out but i didn't listen. So he stepped up with a car. My wife hopes i have to retire, but i told her if thats the case i will have some probs with my legs. Otherwise i'll be back to work. I have no idea what else i would do for a living and still make a decent salary. Again thanks everyone for keeping me and my family in your thoughts and prayers.
