Flushing A Radiator

ive heard so many different stories of how to succsesfully flush your radiator from people i know, but i dont just want to do it out on a whim and mess it up..so heres the thing ill be doin...im replacing the o.e. 195 t/stat with a stant superstat 180 well in the process might as well flush her, im sure its been a long time since someone flushed it..anyhow, from the point of letting it cool and replacing the t/stat now how do i completely flush my system with new coolant :-? thanks so much guys

i got a bunch instruction on how to do it but could never find the radiator drain plug so i havent done it yet. too muddy underneath[addsig]

drain plug is accessed by removing the grille (like 8 or 10 screws) in the front... the drain plug is on the lower passenger side of the radiator... its a little (16mm?) plastic bolt that when you loosen it it opens up and coolant flows out.[addsig]

buy a flush kit with either a super cleaner or flush prestone product. They're all there in wal-mart for less than a sawbuck. follow the instructions and enjoy.

you sure you want to drop your thermo 15 degrees from stock? that 195's in synch with the on-board computer. the 180 will allow the engine to run cooler and result in the comp sending a richer fule mix to the cyls.

thanks nate, all this time id been laying underneath trying to figure out how to get to the bottom of the radiator with the bumper in teh way. thank you very much[addsig]

you probably want to do it yourself but most auto shops have a low pressure flush machine that works really well. its not real exspensive either. approx. cost 90.00 parts and labor with an additive to cut down on the acid buildup and lubricate water pump.[addsig]

well, weigh it out... 10 dollars for parts, and you do it yourself with a garden hose (good learning experience, plus the self-satisfaction) or you can bend over and let a shop do it for $90.........................[addsig]

all the flush does is replace the coolant. not a big deal. aside from saving some coin, doing the work ourselves gives one the satisfaction of knowing the job was done right.[addsig]
