During the oil change today, I found a lovely crack in the exhaust manifold. It was suspected since I could hear a leak and knew that it wasn't my new muffler/exhaust system...I knew that it was a matter of time. So, I brought to a friend of mine with a muffler shop and he put a temporary weld on it to get me through the Turkey Day until a permanent fix could occur. He still says that there is a pinpoint that he couldn't reach, but it "sounds" much better! Couldn't have come at a better time either...I'm leaving Sunday for an EMS Conference about 3 hrs away! Typical...So, any thoughts on a replacement now that I actually have a reason to upgrade?!

I have heard mixed reactions to the Borla header (just friend's opinions) and that was my first choice! Thanks in advance![addsig]

this is a 4.0? i've only heard positive comments regarding the peformance/flow of the stock exhaust manifold... but i've now heard of 2 that have leaks (yours and my buddy's)...

i'd just patch it up and keep driving!

This is a 4.0 / 1998...just a question, what year is your buddy's jeep that has the manifold problem? My welding guru friend said that he has seen problems with the 1997's on up...

Had the same problem with my '97. Ended up having to replace the whole thing. The word that I got was that the entire assembly is welded into one piece. As a result, normal vibration of diving and, of course, anything offroad causes the manifold to separate, especially at the welds. This design has, apparently, been around for many years, and the designers havn't done anything about it. Most of the after-market parts have gone to parts that will flex in order to solve the problem.[addsig]

my buddy has a '93 gc...[addsig]

Medic - that's basically what my friend told me...motor mounts slightly flexible and the rest of the exhaust mounted firmly...something is bound to give! Mine cracked just above the weld where the two pipes connect.[addsig]
