Does anynone know of any specialized breathers, of air flow filters you can get to go on the carburator that will better prevent water and sand in the carburator.[addsig]

You could use a snorkel like the one in my picture. You can order a prefilter for the snorkel which will help to keep more of the dust out. The prefilter doesn't actually have a filter in it. It sucks the air in through the bottom of the filter through some angled fins causing the air to spin as it's sucked in. The spinning motion of the air causes the heavier dirt and dust particles to fall to the outiside of the prefilter and get trapped behind a cone...sort of like a vacuum cleaner. I'm waiting for my prefilter to come in still...it's on backorder at the shop I deal with.[addsig]

For a carburater, you could just get the snorkel that goes on a fuel injected jeep and custom make something that goes from the air tube to the air cleaner lid. The body style of the earlier YJ's never changed when they went to fuel injected so it would fit fine on an earlier YJ if thats what you have. The snorkel goes in through the side of the jeep into the engine compartment and from there it runs into a flexable hose that runs to the airbox. I've never actually looked at a carburated jeep motor before so I don't know if it's an open airfilter or enclosed one with an air hose running out the side. It would be easy to make with some pvc pipe or vacuum hose....or who knows, they may even make something for a carburated model.

One other thing. The snorkel kit came with a bracket and hose and wire extensions to relocate the washer fluid bottle and I don't know where it is located on a carburated jeep or if it can be relocated to the same place. It is relocated to the passenger side of the jeep next to the battery. This is to make room for the intake hose which comes in throught the side of the jeep and goes to the airbox.[addsig]
