Explain a jeep thing...

So I was sitting in traffic the other morning (went in late, dropped the cats off to become "it's") listening to the morning radio...Well the morning punsters (Johnson and Johnson) on Kbull asked a question that stumped a lot of people...
Tommy Johnson said "I was driving in this morning and i saw a jeep with a sticker that read..."it's a Jeep thing...you wouldn't understand". Now can someone call in and just simply explain to me...what is it I wouldn't understand?"

We all know the saying...but can some one really explain it to a non-jeeper?
I have thought about this for several days now and I have came up with a simple answer...

Before I tell you all about it...I would like to hear yours.

hmmm. excellent thread.
The value of a 1946 willys cj2a with 3 speed manual on the collum.
A beat up rusty, not just rusty but, Ohio rusty 1986 cj7.No carpet, no radio, organic smelly odor in seats that have been rained on one too many times.
Passionate debates over axles and axle swaps. Lockers or limited slip diffs.
Gear ratio, Tire size. Dirt, mud, snow and the fact we become "one" with our Jeeps in these elements(no better way to know your rig than to push it to the limit). Its the "Jeep wave". The oggling of other Jeeps and the tires they ride on. Wow are those 37"s that guys riding on? I wonder what gear ratio hes running?- thats the "Jeep thing". Its Jeepz.com. Its JP magazine. Its the thing that drives my wife nuts. She likes the drop top,But hates the paint or lack there of. Likes the tires but hates climbing in the beast. Likes the safety of 4x4 but hates to go off-road.
Its the thing, front diffless, two wheel drive sophisticates, gucci wearing urbanites will never understand. - Its a Jeep thing!:p

First of all, I think those stickers are kinda dumb, but...

The thing they wouldn't understand is the "why".

Why we put up with a lack of creature comforts. Why we put up with the rough ride, the road noise, the cold, heat or rain when we put the top down when there was a chance of a nice day or even just a small window of "top-down" weather.

Why we have to make our Jeeps our "own", you know - individualize them with mods and accessories.

Why we sacrifice economy, cargo space, leg room.

Why it's so hard to wash it after a good dousing of mud.

Why we all wave at each other and why we don't drive by a fellow Jeeper who is stuck or broke down without first stopping to see if there is anything we could do to help out.

The whys... there's many many more, but for all these quirks of Jeep ownership they must wonder why. They can never understand until they go out and buy one for themselves.

I agree with TC as well... He just forgot one important one...

Why we spend so much money on cars when we will never be able to recover if we decide to sell the rig (LIKE WE WOULD!)

I mean think about it... it's 45 degrees one morning, but the forecast says 78 and sunny for the afternoon. You go to work with the top and doors off, with expectations of the first "springlike" day. What word comes to those watching you shiver your way to work?

WHY?

(and so on)

It's a Jeep thing, you wouldn't understand...

...why we are all so into Jeep cliches. :p

But I think TC already pointed out that point.

its the same reason some music makes you cringe and some makes the hair stand up on the back of your neck...jeeps make "our motors run " its an infatuation that won't die ...may an "infection" would fit better ?
we sell perfect trucks and cars because we cant stand to drive them. we always spot the for sale on a jeeps and feel cooped up when riding with "the wife" or friends untill we get them in a liberty at the very least.....

You know, explaining the Jeep thing is difficult. Why are we drawn to these things? I have a Ford F150 also and I catch myself driving down the road and seeing another f150 and I almost start to wave until I realize, it is a Jeep thing. Ford fans don't wave, nor do chevy, dodge, etc. Keep it going because it is something special that no one else has.

The only thing that I think would even be close is Harley owners. Jeepers and bikers support their own pretty well.

It's sorta like trying to explain this...

This is how I would describe it ... it's like some strange voodoo curse or something. It's like "I got a Jeep.. I'm Bad A**...My Jeep is Bad A** as well. If you got a Jeep, den you Bad A** too." I mean, even if you aren't really Bad.....no one is gonna tell you any different!
It's strange.. I only have eyes for Jeeps now....I don't care what you are driving.. U pull up next to me in your slick new red BMW....with my sunburned face and hair lookin' like it's been thru a tornado, I won't give you a second look........ nah... sell that thing and git y'self a Jeep... then I'll might give ya a second glance.

It's like a brainwashing of sorts. You can take the dorkiest guy.. stick him in a Jeep.. and it's like Instant Cool. If Jerry Lewis pulled up beside me in some wicked 07 Sahara... I'm ALL OVER THAT!! I might even flash him or something. Maybe.
I don't know how to describe it, I guess no one does. I don't even beat mine off road and I am still insane with the Fee-Vuh!!! It transcends the time/space continuum.
