Exhaust popped off!!!

I was driving up my driveway today and my jeep got really loud and sounded like a dump truck. I got to the top of the driveway and got under it , and low and behold the ehaust pipe broke off the manifold right at the connection. I am gonna take it to Henry's muffler shop tomorrow to get that sucker welded . I personally think the thing sounded awesome. :D . I shouldn't be driving the thing right??? will it hurt anything? I've got a tow bar so I can get it to the shop, so I don't have to drive it.

Mine broke off about a little ways before the cat-conv. and I drove it for at least 2 weeks. Nothing was hurt, I think it actually ran better ( and sounded much better) than stock. Now I have all new pipes, but sort of wish I had just left it off.

Was it cold when you were driving it?? my dad said it can do some damage if the weather is cold. I wasn't really payin attention so i don't know what it could do. haha

Ya it was cold, towards the end of December. Did yours break at the connection between the pipe and the manifold? Not sure if that would cause damage. I've got a truck with straight hedders and it is fine, not sure if it would be different with just a manifold?

Well a few months back the hangers broke and t he whole system was held on by zip ties for a week or 2. I'm guessing this put enough stress on the pipe to snap it. It broke on the pipe side of the connector. I've been driving it today and I don't wanna fix it now. :D sounds so cool!!!! I've got an appointment at Henry's on friday. They said they might not be able to fix it but it's wortha shot instead of takin it to an engine shop and shellin out some real dough.

Hi guys - the exaust pipe that is broken off at the exaust manifold CAN do damage if driven - don't drive it until fixed or be very careful when shutting it off - when the engine is at operating temperature and is shut off, the outside air will travel into that manifold and CAN warp the exaust valves (super hot exaust valve + cold NC air = warped valves) - if you have to drive it, stuff an Oregon grown spud in it after shut down HaHa - FYI, uncapped headers are OK because the cold air is warmed up enough after traveling the longer distance from the collector to the valve LBR

That is very true. I didn't even think about that until you brought it up. I was just thinking about whether it would cause damage while running

i wouldnt really worry about it, my exhaust is broken right at the vront of the cat and iv been driving it like that for months its that stupid POS pacesetter header and extension pipe that i put on, does no good at all and its rotting out allready, not even a year old yet its a piece of work that thing. usless but my engine is fine and iv been driving it this whole winter and we have gotten as cold as 8 degrees here,..

NEVER run a Jeep engine with just the exhaust manifold connected. THat is way too close to the valves and you would be regreting it if you suck in any cool air. Unless you have a long header, don't run it.

the header i have is long. thats why im not really worried about it
