So. Got in my xj this morning to head to class and well its idling pretty high... It was about 1500 rpms when it was cold but once it warmed up it idled real rough at about 2k... After class I plan to take the throttle body apart and do all the normal cleaning that everyone suggests. But when that fails I'm hooeing ill have other suggestions to try ha. Also ever since I bought it it has been hard to start. I dis the normal cleaning once and it didn't do much. Normal right after starting it for the first time it runs really rough and acts super sluggish like can't even get going up the hill I park on... But after 20 seconds or so its fine.. any ideas ? My buddy had a similur problem and said it was his throttle position sensor that went bad and was messing with his choke..

Okay so I was right...my throttle body was dirty as hell and I cleaned all the sensors and even replaced the tbs.. didn't work. I even seaphoamed the intake and vacumm lines and while I was lookeing under to see if I had any loose lines my horn started blaring.(right in my ear B\ scared the crap out of me) it didn't shut off until I closed my door.. whenever I open my door it turns on again. I closed my hood and it turned on until I opened and closed my door... What the heck!? What is going on here

What year is your XJ?

About your horn, pull the horn cover off of the steering wheel and see if the plastic parts of the horn button are cracked, allowing the horn to short out.

Now all the symptoms have changed. No more freaky horn and it isles right at 700... It's like nothing ever happened except now when driving and the rpms are at about 1600-1900 rpms it spurts and lurches... My xj is having a mental breakdown

Try disconnecting the battery for 10 minutes, then reconnecting and going for a drive.

I'm thinking that the PCM will need to relearn the mixture.

Ha just did and then came to see if anyone else had input.. thanks!

Everything seems to be back to normal. Crisis averted ha well actually after the throttle body being as dirty as it was my throttle response is much better.. and I expect to see a little more mpgs..
