dry oil sump

I have a 2001 TJ, 4.0 and am wondering if there is a dry oil sump system out there for this engine. Does anyone know where I can find one? Has anyone successfully completed this swap? if so, please tell me more about it.

thanks

Please 'splain what a dry sump is and what it will do for your jeep. Never heard of one for Jeeps.

its an oils system that doesnt store the oil in the oil pan, it has an external "sump" also with an external oil pump. the pump has dual purpose, to take suction from the engine sump, to keep it dry and pump it into the external sump. then it takes suction from the external sump and pumps it back into the engine. this does two things for you, it gives you more horsepower by not having the crankshaft slopping around in oil and most importantly, you always have oil pressure. When you are leaning in any direction, you could lose suction from your internal oil pump and cause engine damage, which has happened to me in the past. with the external sump, you can have as much oil in it as you want and should never lose suction and damage the engine. hope this somewhat clears up what the "dry sump" set up is....

here is a link to a graphic....www.razorperformance.com/3stageschem.gif

Never seen or heard of it in a Jeep, so your's may be the first 8)

The only way to get the oil into the dry sump system would be to scavenge from the oil pan, correct? The system would suck air if the oil wasn't above the intake, so you gain nothing if I'm looking at this correctly. If the engine leans to the passenger side, the sump will surely suck air, but maybe the oil tank compensates for this.

What else has this system been used successfully on?

304 parts

The good thing about a dry system is that if you do tilt one way or the other and lose suction from your engine sump, you have all the extra capacity of your external sump which will continue to feed your engine. The vapors will return to the engine through a vent off the external sump. Now, saying all this, does anyone know of a system built for the 4.0??

never heard of one for the 4.0 but i would like to put one on my V8 its an awsom system but its not really ment for off roadits more for race cars where when u mash the gas the front of the car picks up and all your oil gets pushed to the back of the engine and u have no lube at the pick up tube area to lub the engine

I thought most v8's had the oil pickup at the back of the engine

some do but its also so oil doesnt stick to the sides of the oil pan from the crank truning at such speeds but i i figured a windage tray would do the job but someone that designed the dry sump didnt
