Trying that, but it won't get me past 1400. I flap just before I hit ground.

stay near the grown.. but don't let the beak get below parallel with the grownd... if the beak is parallel, flapping will raise the nose and bring you up.. but if you are below, it will only bring your parallel, and just "keep you in flight" rather than "put you in flight"
