Donating blood

I just got done donating blood - actually a double red donation since I'm O-Positive. Does anyone else here donate blood regularly? My company has the Red Cross come to our building, so I get off work for a little while (I'd rather get poked by a needle then fill up on free cookies than work).

I donate every 8 weeks at work. Been donating since I was 17. I transfuse enough blood in my patients to see just how needed donations are. The Community Blood Center runs the blood bank in Dayton. I get gifts for every 5 donations (like pens and coffee mugs) and get a recorded call letting me know when I helped save a life.

That's a great idea! I wish the red cross did that around here.

Since I'm O+ I get calls from the Red Cross all the time to donate blood. I do it once a year, so I should probably step it up. The only problem is that machine they hook me up to (apheresis?) takes about an hour +, so it's hard to find the time.

Call me a woosie but I get sick every time I give blood.it doesnt bother me to see me leaking or anything....I get light headed then sick to my stomach. Good meals and plenty of fluids beforeh and no luck.

When I lived in Charleston, there was a Red Cross location just down the street from my office so I'd go every 60 days on my lunch break. Now that we moved, there is not anyplace that's convenient so I haven't given in about a year. I feel like I should but I just can't make it work.

Businesses and schools host blood drives all the time. Call the blood bank and ask for the dates of local blood drives. I am certain you will find one in your area. My employer hosts one every other month in the hospital gymnasium. Open to the public, and you can make an appointment.
