Dog issues

We have three Labs, one of which is an idiot (Ruger) and the other two are pretty chill (Gunny and Ripley). They all need to be safe, so A) Do you just leave the dogs at home unless driving on the beach or in the woods; or B) harness them in for any ride? I think the unruly one should be strapped in or glued to the floor regardless, or even stay home, but sometimes it isn't an option and he has to go with us. Obviously their safety comes first in any situation, but I'd like for them to enjoy the ride.

Today there isn't a cloud in the sky after a week of flooding (creating perfect muddy areas) and Ruger has to come because it's overnight. Right now, I can't take the hard top off because I KNOW he'll bolt.

Sad face.

Just an idea, get harnesses for all three dogs . Then get one of those ratcheting tie down straps from wal mart and run the strap on your roll bar across the width of your jeep, attaching the harnesses to the strap. Just make it so they cannt get tangled up with each others harness leader strap.

I have a Border Collie pup that is 8 months old and nothing but energy. As soon as he outgrew the crate in our Jeep I got him a harness. Works real good. Stopped him from going out the half door a couple times.

I've got a blue heeler that rides with me quite a bit. I've got a piece of plywood laid across the top of the fenders behind the seats ( don't have the back seat in yet) . She starts out in the passenger seat then when we hit the main road she goes back there and walks back and forth. She's never offered to jump out. I did take her riding in the fields slowly at first to make sure she'd be ok but this dog wont hardly leave my side anyway. Maybe take 'em somewhere first that you can go slow and if they bail they wont get hurt. If they do bail make it clear to them this is a bad thing.

I have two labs one is 8 and the other is one they both love jeep rides with the top off but I started the 8 year old off on a leash tied to the roll bar and he got it real fast so don't use the leash anymore and the one year old is smart he just watched the older one and cookies him so I never worry about it I like to take the back seat out tho considering one is 100 lb and the other is about 80 lbs but ya they love jeep rides

I only have 1 Rotty..So easy for me.I remove the back seat, remove the seat belts.Take a chain with a swivel and bolt back into place where the seat belts go.Double check to make sure chain is short enough to keep dog in Jeep.

I started out with a leash over the rollbar as well, with my 4 year old Lab, but that didnt last long. he just chills back there. oh, and i have to take the windows out he hates them in.

My oldest lab gets car sick he won't ride in any vehicle willingly unless it's my wrangler but the windows have to be off or the top has to be off. He loves it but at the same time he drools none stop cause he is getting car sick.

Not a bad deal for $109:
JK netting
I wouldn't feel safe unless I had some sort of netting. My dog escapes everything (he just pulls back until he comes out of harnesses).

I have a Hungarian Visala & a Spaniel ,both mixed mutts...I always use harnesses & strap them to the seat belts,or the rool bar. The love to ride in the Jeep get excited at the mention of the words "harness" "Jeep" or "ride".

Once again, Ruger is stupid. Not only will he NOT get in the Jeep now, he actually runs the other way down the street. Idiot.
