hey everyone, was putting together my axle and noticed the axle seals didnt look too healthy so i decided to put a hault on it and get new seals, but i noticed that on my old pinion, there is what looks like to be an oil splash plate. it is between the old pinion gear and the inner bearing. is that something that should be on my new setup? i allready pressed on the new bearing onto my new pinion, and i didnt have anything between it like whats on my old setup. anyone do this before? is it bad to not have that splash shield thing? thanks in advance for the info..

floor panel repair

ok called up 4wheel parts and they said that its an oil slinger that keeps oil in the bearings better than not having one, does any have there gears setup and not have one in there?

what is it?

yea snitty, thats what i thought, but they said that it will retain more oil in the bearing area and it can prevent excessive wear, dont know if i should go and try to remove the new bearing and install that slinger.... i dont want to dammage the new bearing, but i also dont want to dammage the gears...

I wouldn't take the chance, it could leave you stranded and require more expensive fixing and downtime later. You've got it apart, do it right.

4.0 stroker part 2

the oil slinger also acts as a pinion depth shim. i suggest putting it in as you probably have already found out that it is expensive to set up gears., better to do it only once

yea i allready figured that it will have something to do with pinion depth, allready got everything to take th ebearing off the pinion and it will be done 2morrow, almost a grand into just the front axle built to my specs and im not about to mess that up over a little 50 cent shim thanks everyone..
