Dana 20 noise

Any have any information for me, I have a 1958 gmc truck with a TH400 and a dana 20, it drives and sounds good in 2WD but when I shift into 4wd the transfer case wines and grinds. Ive tore the t-case apart and there is nothing loose or anything that looks bad, everthing is tight, the front and rear ends are 3.73s and match, already checked that. Im going to sell this truck and dont want someone to stick into 4wd and hear that noise, I even stuck in a different dana 20 with the same result, anyone have any information that could help me, thanks

Is this noise new to your truck, or are you new to the Dana 20? No insult intended.
The Dana 20 is a rather noisy transfer case in 4wd. But it has a rear output that is inline with the input so 2wd is much quieter.
I asume this is not a factory drivetrain since neither the TH400 or Dana 20 were used by GM in 58.

We installed this transfer case and transmission in the truck, it made alot of noise only in 4wd i guess because its straight through in 2wd. Ive had jeeps in the past and they never made this noise so I removed the t-case and nothing looked bad or no loose bearings, etc were found, so I installed a different Dana 20 and it made worse noise in 4wd, so now im putting new seals and gaskets back in the old one and putting it back in and i guess just putting up with the noise. I just thought someone had some nowledge of these and could give me a clue. It looks like your right about them just being a noisy transfer case, right? Thanks for your input.

Well I took the transfer in and had it checked out, he went through it and removed a couple of shims, made everything tight again, i reinstalled it and it does the same thing, is it possible that my front end is bad? I removed the cover and everything looks good, pried with a crowbar on things and the only thing that seems loose or worn is the driver front axle going into the hub, not bad but goes up and down bout a eight of a inch, it only does it when you let off the gas, or should i say it does it the most when i let off the gas
