D35 broken axle shafts

We've had a lot of D35 axle shafts breaking in our club lately, thought I would share pictures of the latest one. He broke it trying to climb the hill in the second pic, it was snowy, muddy, steep, and had lots of rocks and roots bouncing you around. I was right in front of this Jeeper and made it over okay, which is usually the case for the first jeeper in line on this property, then it's slick for everybody else.

We jacked up the Jeep with a hi-lift and slid the axle shaft back in. We then cut the appropriate size log and ratchet strapped it outside the tire and to the frame. The e-brake also helped hold the shaft in the housing. Then the work began :lol: We had to winch it over the hill it couldn't climb, then drag it down the trail to another hill it had to be winched over. Got him to the trail head were he waited for a trailer. Had I had my spare shafts with me he would have been able to drive home on his own with no problems.
