Aight guys, replaced my cps after it decided to seperate wires... after replacing it i still have it cranking but no start or even sputter... whats the wiring diagram for the cps sensor? does it go thru any fusable links, and also does it go to the throttle body or over by the battery to one of the relays and whatnot? I have a strong feeling the wires connected to eachother and shorted something out, just need some help tracing the wires.
Specs: 88 XJ 4.0 auto 4x4

i'm not 100% on this, but do you need to reset your computer after replacing that? maybe just unplug the battery for a few minutes?...

are you getting spark?

do you have fuel pressure at the rail? (schrader valve)

check your feul rail and spark plugs like dingus said. stick a screw driver in the end of one of the plugs and hold it close to something to that will allow a spark to bridge between the screwdriver and a metal object. if that doesnt do it, check your distributor. the pickup may be dirty and cause it not to start. the pick up is a little metal piece and can collect debris if you expose the distributor to the weather, like take it apart and drop a metal shaving or two in it. my jeep had feul, spark, and compression and wouldnt start and that was what it was. i spent 100 on a cps from the dealer only to find out it was something that would take me 5 minutes to fix.

have spark (pulled a wire and it arced to the plug) and fuel pressure seems good... had it on a battery charger for a few hrs today so the batt has plenty of juice. im really in a rut here...

if i were in your shoes, i'd be taking her to a shop with a code scanner. electrical problems suck and i'd rather spend my money there and save myself the agony.

true, but since its a 88 isnt that the computer that nobody likes? (forgot the name) im thinking i blew a relay or something when the cps wires came apart and might have touched... i dunno, i just hate all this electrical stuff... its prolly summin really easy that im just overlooking...

weird computer? no way, the 90 would be the odd-ball year for a cherokee... but anyways...

you think you'll bring it to a shop to get the computer scanned and the guy at the counter's gonna throw up his hands? haha..

well at least you're on the right track thinkin its something easy, it always is...

yea, ill throw it on a trialer and take it by the shop tomorra when i get time.. i hate doing that, but some things ya cant do yourself... ill keep looking things over tonight and see if that does any good, i mean if theres spark and fuel, it SHOULD start up, right? Ill throw some cables on it and see if the batt dropped a cell or summin

if you were carb'ed, the fuel/spark theory would work here....

but everythings' so computerized nowadays you're screwed without a code scanner.
