Cool air intake

Has anyone built their own cool air intake or at least attempted? Or has anyone seen a site with a home made cool air intake for the 4.0L? I've been a Jeep enthusiast for quite a while now but I'm also a sport compact enthusiast (DSM only). Just looking for a way to allow the beast to breathe a little better and add a liltte horsepower without braking the bank. Any replies are appreciated!

A conical K&N filter will improve performance a ton over the stock intake box. I've had one for years, but I wouldn't call the air cool.

this is my dremel-job... just cut out a little piece of the front of the airbox...

i wouldn't go makin a "cool air intake" on a jeep kuz if you plan on going thru any deep water (2 feet+) you'll be sure to suck up water into your engine...

it would also be a good idea to remove that little air restrictor in the tube for the airbox... every little bit helps! my jeep really has a nice growl to it now.

cost: $0

if i really wanted to make it sweet i'd pick up a k&n panel filter

RE: ABS Vibration no light

Check out my thread entitled"air intake" from a few weeks ago, just scroll back and you will see what I did and also see some of the great ideas put out.

I went with the tube by XJARMOR and I love it.
It did not break the bank either

I built one out of aluminum tubing, put a K&N cone filter on the the end. Easy to do if you have a welder. I got a pic of it somewhere...

RE: Is Black Diamond better than a Rancho lift for a CJ7

I built my own too, very similar to Joops. Slightly O/T if you properly design a cold air intake, it will be less likely to take in water than a stock intake, Assuming we are talkin YJ's, TJ's will suffer from a Cold air intake!

Is that true, jps4jeep?? Enlighten me, please. Maybe I need to reinstall my stock (TJ) airbox?

the only REAL "cool air" intake I've seen for a jeep is a snorkel. For cool air, the end of the intake tube needs to be outside of the engine bay. Cutting the stock box away works well. My entire driver side wall of my air box has been cut away, and the restrictor has been removed. The difference was not incredible, but I noticed it
