Cone intake

Hey anybody out there ever had much of a problem with an intake sucking water? When it's raining or in puddles or anything? I just put one on, and got to thinking about what would happen when it started getting wet outside. If there is a problem with it, is there something that can be stuck on under it to act as a splash guard or something?

I don't think you'll have a problem with it. I have one on my XJ and never had a bit of trouble with it. If you have the rusty's tube it kinda puts the intake over the fender..so that will take most of the splashes, you'll be fine.

for just driving in rain it should be fine. Splashing hard through deep water/mudholes is another story and you should take that into consideration.

Just tearin' through the mud and puddles shouldn't be too bad then. I'll try to keep from submerging then. I was kind of thinking of taking a little square of sheet metal and bolting it onto the front 2 holes that were left over from taking the air box off. Letting that stick out a couple of inches over the opening between the engine and the frame. Maybe that would give a little extra leeway.

I just don't want the jeep to "suck".
Water that is...

There is one intake, have to look it up that has a cone filter inside a large box with a clear lid that bolts onto the box. The front still has an opening like the stock aribox, maybe a little bigger, but it may be safer. I know they make a pre-filter, sock like cover, for cone filters.

I had a little trouble pulling some muddy water in a few times when I used the cone intake, but there are several ways to avoid that.

I believe it was Bounty who showed us the milk jug trick, cheap, easy, effective
