Colorado Trail Patrol

Well, In for a dime in for a dollar...

I signed up recently for the Colorado Trail Patrol.

The Colorado Trail Patrol is a Forest Service, BLM and other land use sanctioned groups monitoring group. We are basically trained and have a means to report via the internet.

When on trail, we post a sign at the trail head, and head on in.

We report GPS coordinates for trails, conditions (mostly regarding trail damage), attend trail repairs and can report violators that go off trail. We also report when we need to assist in returning a rig to the trail and why the rescue/recovery was needed.

We carry identification on the rigs and ourselves (hats and badges ID us as Forest Service Volunteers).

What do you guys think about that?

That sounds great to me! So you have an excuse to go wheeling, get a chance to help maintain the trail, help those that need it, and punish those that ruin it for the rest of us? That sounds like a win - win for everyone.

Congrats, and thanks for signing up.
I am also a member of Utah's trail patrol, been at it for several years now.
We also assist in search and rescue missions in Uinta's National Forest, along with trail maintenance. Its hard to call in the park rangers on fellow jeepers but if we want to keep the forest trails open we have to do our part.

So as a fellow trail patrol member from Utah...thank you for volunteering your time and energy.

Actually we were encouraged not to bring any guns with us. We are also not to confront people. After all, what are digital cameras for?
