Clutch Fan Removal

new here and i know it sucks to start off with a question right off the bat but here goes anyway.... have an 01 sport and i'm wanting to swap out the clutch fan for a electric setup... problem i've having is removing the old clutch fan it seems to have the same setup my 01 S10 had which is that the fan is a nut that threads on after the waterpump pulley directly to the pulley mount flange therefore you have to hold the pulley "somehow" and turn the fan nut to thread it off... i accomplished this in my s10 but using a flat piece of steel bar had my buddy hold the bar and wedge against the body while i turned the nut and freed it up... with the jeep its hard going i have no ideas on holding the pulley ... any help or ideas would be a great help feel free to toss out anything....... i have a haynes manual and it doesnt even describe this type of fan mount *as did the s10 manual" thanks in advance 8)

i did mine with a pair of vice grips and a box end wrench for the pulley directly underneath...maybe harder on a 4.0...but anyway..hope it helps and welcome to jeepz...

I had to make a tool for this job and with some simple garage tools it wasn't too hard to make. The idea is to have a lever that bolts onto the pulley using the existing pulley mounting bolts. Find a piece of plate steel(1/8"-1/4" thick) and another piece of steel that would make a good lever. I measured the distance between two of the four existing pulley mounting bolts and drilled two holes for the bolts into the plate steel close to the edge of the plate. I then welded an old connecting rod to the plate steel (connecting rod being the best lever available to me), and bolted the plate with the attached lever to the pulley. It is probably the ugliest tool I own but it has proved it's use several times in a bind. The tool just basically holds the pulley still while you loosen the clutch fan hex nut. Feel free to improve on the design.

thats kinda the way i headed on the s10 but i did take time to make a good design i rigged it up on the fly , but thanks a million i'll rip into it this weekend , thanks for the point in the right direction bro !
