CJ lift

Best 4x4 game for the PC and MAC!!!!!!

When I bought my CJ the front was lifted with shackles, and I think the springs were re-arched. The front end is sagging and I want to ditch the lift shackles for some heavy duty ones I have. I called a spring place in town and he quoted $100 a spring. Should I fork over the $200 or should I wait und just buy a new lift? I have seen several for under $400 and they come with new shocks.

If you buy a lift (most any lift), you'll get a complete matched suspension instead of mixing and matching parts. You'll save alot of money in the long run because you'll get shocks, springs, bushings, etc. All of that stuff adds up when bought seperately!

have you considered a conversion to YJ springs? they are a lot beefier and are much easier to replace

Well YJ springs aren't beefier??????? They are "wider" and since they are also a little bit longer and sit flat they produce a smoother ride and better flex. But they also fail rather quick, especially the rears.

The swap to YJ spring is a great conversion but typically more expensive and more labor intensive. If you can afford it though, it is worth it. If not you have a ton of choices with or without shocks. Before I spent 400 bones on stock springs that some spring shop makes I would get a system that has been tested for about the same or 150 more. You will be WAY HAPPIER.

Holy crap that is cheap!!! They list 2.5 for mine at 350 WITH shocks??

Hows it ride?? (Like it could ride worse then my jeep now....Lololol)

i've got the BDS 2" in my YJ and it rides a lot better than it did b4 the lift. considering i had a broken leaf spring, my friend has a yj also with stock suspension, and he says my jeep rides much better than his does so he is gonna get the same suspension set up that i've got. good luck in choosing you lift, i got mine from ECOR, darrin was really helpful.

What about going with a shackle reverse kit? Are they worth the money?

I honestly was going to paint my new bike. But it's new, and my Jeep is 24. The right side springs sag a tad. That price is cheaper then stock.
Decisions decisions...................

Guess my save up cash goes into my Jeep. Funny how that always happens.

if you go with yj springs, most aftermarket yj springs are a lot beefier than the cj springs... the width of them gives much more matter there to hold and support the vehicle... the weight of the vehicle is rested on much more spring... the softer ride is due to the ability of more weight support with similar flex capabilities

I got the 3.5" in my YJ. My stock springs were shot and so were the shocks. Ol Whitey rides like a dream compared to the way it was before the BDS lift, but I don't know how it would compare to a stock system in good condition. Anyways, I'm real happy with the ride.

I guess we can disagree. I have seen several "CJ's" with the conversions even Rubicon express systems that have started to fail. The perception might be they are tougher but mine is 24 and just started to sag about a 1/2 an inch. I have seen these fail in 3-5 years on Wranglers but espesially on CJs to YJ conversions. Mind you I would not let that stop me because of the flex and ride difference you gain with YJ springs. But a spring over put's it to high up for my needs. Not to mention the price tag.
(Wish I could cause I would!!)

As far as shackle reversals I think it's warranted, and probably worth it for the right kit. You will experience brake dive and it is nice NOT having it dive when you drop off those 90 degree ledges. But adjust for those situations and the ride quality is much better. Make sure your bump stops are up to the task, they will get hit more.

My CJ rides like a brick Sh*t house as it is so I assume the ride quality can't really get any worse. And nobody notices my jeep sagging to the left but I do, and that means I have to fix it. (I'm one of those people, once something bothers me IT MUST be fixed  )

Thanks to all the feed back on some one elses post. Didn't mean to Hi-jack it, but at least I stayed on topic this time.

My CJ does not ride as bad as some Lifted YJ's. I want to make sure the ride is not hurt to much. I do not want my 1 year old to get shaken baby syndrom from driving down the freeway.
