I recently got a 83 cj7 with a rebuilt 6 cly and new wireharness.
i was looking at the exhaust and noticed there ar 6 bolts ( im asuming one for each cylinder) that were just finger tight. they dont go into the block and are hollow kinda like the bolt that holds a brake line to a caliper. i was hopeing someone could tell me what the pupose of them is and posibly where i could get one because im missing one?

I believe what you are looking at is the smog pump nozzle tie-ins, you were likely given a California Emissions Complant manifold. On the 258 manifolds, the bolts holes that hold the manifold to the head are more like a hook shape (accept the end two holes). You can use this manifold, just plug off the nozzle holes.

They gave you a post '82 manifold. I scored an '80 for my AMC Eagle (same motor) so I can take the AIR tube manifold off. Previous owner was forced by the emission nazis to put on BOTH the AIR manifold and pulse air (line to the cat they also forced him to put on) in a vehicle that did NOT come with any of it stock because it was registered as a truck in Canada.
Next step with be EFI from a '91 Cherokee

I had a cj that had those bolt in the intake manifold, previous owner had taken all emissions equipment off. If i remember right, they had welded the hole shut. I didnt run the motor long because it took a deep swim into a deep hole and ingested some water and throw a rod a few weeks later. So, you may want to look into just useing a regular manifold bolt for it, or see if a 4x4 shop in your area may have one left over from a rebuild or something. try quadratrac too maybe

They are a common street thread. Some were std and some were metric. IIRC, the ones I had were 14mm (same as spark plug)
