Chinard.......Do alotta checkin make sure the oil on the dipstick isnt white and milky too, if it is you are for sure getting water in from somewhere could be a head gasket, also check your exhaust pipe to see if you have any excessive amounts of condensation coming from it. You may already know all of this, but this is what happened to me about a week ago after installing a Weber carb..........Whats the carb got to do with it you may ask. Well my 79 CJ 258 ci is miled up and a little on the tired side after installing the Weber exactly as the reccomend I noticed excessive amounts of oil coming from the valve cover, what was happening was that this old tired ass 258 has some excessive blow-by and with the back vacuum hose hooked to the air filter it was not letting it escape in turn basically blowing the valve cover off the head, also when I removed the oill filler cap with the engine running there was a loud air pressure sound from the by-pass build up and a lot of that whit goopy shit like you metioned you found on the underside of your cap.....so far no sign of oil on the dipstick, but as you know living in Jeep world its only gotta be a matter of time before something else happens[addsig]

Yeah, the oil is normal colour, thats the first thing i checked because i know that if the oil is kinda milky that means coolant in the oil. The oil was fine, just this crap caked on the oil cap that caught my attention.

As far as the valve cover, I've already put on a replacement aluminium valve cover. You know those nice one you can get from quadratec? I had my original plastic valve cover crack and start leaking oil all over the manifold shortly after installing the weber, but then again this was ALSO on an engine that had not been driven regularly for 2 or 3 years

There COULD be a connection between the fact that people who install the weber tend to get a little RPM happy and rev it higher than they should, thereby creating more oil pressure than the old gaskets can handle.

Needless to say, ALL my gaskets are fresh except for the head gasket. Lets HOPE i dont have to go down that path anytime soon. If i do, i'll probably just go for broke and install a 4.0l head.[addsig]
