cherokee jump

I have an 87' Cherokee with a 4.0 and an auto transmission. When driving over 50mph it lets out a bang(or a jerk) real hard which jumps the rear.I have replaced the rearend and all the sensors.I give up so help.

The rear jumps up.. lol sounds like mine, jeeps rear ends are light as about anything else so I believe most of all rear ends feel like they are jumping up. But thats just what i've noticed going over almost all bumps, but i've never noticed the jerking feeling.

You replaced the ENTIRE rear end? Hmmm... is it possible your are misdiagnosing where the jerking is coming from?

Yes I did miss the real problem when I changed the rearend but the old rearend was shot anyway because the last owner didn't lube it.I wonder if the problem is transmission or converter ( this cherokee was not taken care of ) When I got it I had to replace all the rear wire harness because it had burned up from a short but now the headlights blink when the fan kicks on.It still bangs hard over 50mph. :?

Sounds like transmission to me...that's why I asked. Do you have much slippage?

And, this is going to sound crazy, but I'm assuming that there's no chance that your front end is locked is it? Auto lockers (Like lockrite) tend to lock occasionally at speed...especially if you are turning. (Although not at 50mph)

Since you replaced the rear end, I'm assuming there's no chance of a locker in there. Do you still know the former owner?

the front end free wheels all the time intill transfer case is locked. The transmission DOES shift hard and I have changed the filter in it.I got it from a guy who got it from someone who didn't take care of it.It is my every day driver and is very reliable. Just got to get the kinks out of it. I have replaced the transmission mount, one motor mount, sensors, rearend, rear wire harness, key switch,U-joints,and transfer case.

I may have had the same problem
new front wheel bearing hubs fixed it for me
