Changing spark plugs

Have just bought a second hand Jeep Grand Cherokee Ltd 5.2L V8. Installed K&N filter without a problem, and having done plugs before, tried to get the plug wires off to change the plugs ... trouble is, I can't get the plug wires off.

Chilton manual says "Carefully twist the spark plug wire boot to loosen it, then pull upward and remove the boot from the plug". Top of the plug wire boot twists but the rest doesn't. Can't see the plug for the metal tube that protects it, so I'm stuck. There a trick somewhere, but I can't see it. All tips welcome. :-?[addsig]

welcome to the board. If it were me and I was tuning it up for the first time would buy a new set of plug wires and yank them puppy off and go back with a fresh set. Problem solved. Tug[addsig]

Few other people have made the same suggestion, and as the wires probably haven't been changed in a long time (like ever), it sounds like the solution.

Can you recommend a good set of leads for coping with the heat that big ol' V8 lump kicks out? :-)[addsig]

Go to any good parts place and ask for a good quality heavy duty set of wires and then choise the set that fits your budget. Get the heavest, best set that you can afford and justify the money toward. Tug[addsig]

Go get your self a good set of plug boot pliars, they are made to remove just such things, then buy a GOOD set of plug wires from like MSD, ACCEL, Mallory (my personal choice) or taylor, not the $15 POS from autozone.. the difference in resistance is amazing.. by like a factor of 10 usually and those cheap wires break down real easy whcih will cause mis fires and cross firing and all kinds of other stuff you don't want.
