I am going to change out my rotors on my 2001 Cherokee. Does anyone have any advice on any difficulties I might encounter? I have done brake pads and shoes before but never had to replace rotors. Thanks for the advice!!!

Nothing to it, if you've replaced the pads then you've already had the brake caliper off and the piston pushed back in. Just do the same thing, then remove the small metal clips at the base of two lugs and pull the rotor off. It's not necessary to reuse the clips.[addsig]

Here is my post from 2-27-03...

Has anyone else had problems with their rotors going bad in a relatively short period of time? I bought this Jeep in 7/2001. By 9/2001 the rotors were warped and replaced by the dealer. Now they are warped AGAIN only a year and a half later! Is this normal? The dealer says the rotors are out of warranty. I don't mind doing the work myself but this seems like a more serious problem. The rotors were replaced the first time at 9500 miles and now I have 23000 miles. Is this normal wear or I am I just freaking out for no reason! Thanks for the input!

So after all is said and done... I am going to chnage everything out to be on the safe side!

Thanks!!!

It's not normal wear. I'd get some quality aftermarket rotors as the Jeep rotors are notorious for warping. Check out the slotted/cross-drilled rotors and performance pads.[addsig]

rotor replacement is a breeze. what's interesting is that you keep having them warped. usually that's usually from getting those rotors real hot by breaking then driving through water. that'll do it every time. do you do any serious hill climbing then into the drink?[addsig]

No weird driving going on here! This is my wifes truck and it is a weird situation. Today I TRIED to replace the rotors but the rotors I bought rubbed on the inside metal rotor guard. So I brought them back and was given the CORRECT rotors. Well, I tried these rotors on and these rubbed also!!! So I put the old rotors back on until I buy the correct rotors. That is a problem in itself because every parts store I went to, they say that a 2001 has 2 different rotors. The Jeep dealer said that only 1 rotor is made for the 2001... So i am confused. The rotors I had today had an inside diameter of about 6" and the other ones that I tried had an inside diameter of about 6-3/8". I am confused! Any advice? :-? [addsig]

Excess heat crossed my mind as well. Make sure she doesn't ride the brakes, especially when going down hills.[addsig]

You may have to bite the bullet and get the factory rotors. I think you can buy MOPAR parts online which might save a few bucks. Do a search for 2001 Jeep brake rotors and see what comes up.

Why are there no Wal Marts in Iraq?

Because there are already hundreds of Targets..........[addsig]
